Build a gated shifter for my car. Electronic. Hook it up to the solenoids with some diodes so that 1-2-3-4 actuates the proper solenoids. Build a clutch pedal that actuates the torque converter lockup. Boom. 2000 Buick LeSabre with a gated manual.

Remember how you said you weren't gonna spend any money on this car?

This is easily something I could remove and install on my next car.

Build a clutch pedal that actuates the torque converter lockup.

Have fun with that.

Get foot pedal from sewing machine -> affix to floor -> connect to TC lockup solenoid -> done.

Have to treat it carefully because it will go straight from disengaged to engaged, but no more carefully than you'd have to treat an actual clutch.

You gonna remove and re-install the ECU tune, the suspension, the exhaust, and the wheels too?

I had a massive derp and assumed some kind of a mechanical linkage, not just a switch and a solenoid, sorry. That actually sounds do-able, good luck!

Wheels, yes. Suspension, possibly. Exhaust, maybe the glasspack. Tune, naw.

Yeah, $150 for a tune, and it was very well worth it.

Back in the days of SMGs and other automated, single-clutch gearboxes, before DCT/DSGs took over, I always thought it would be cool to see a transmission that let you choose between full manual and semi-/full-auto.

Shift yourself with the clutch + stick, use paddles while the car works the clutch and the stick follows via solenoids (just watch your hands!), or let it go full auto. How cool would it be to flip a paddle and have the gated shifter THUNK itself into place?

Well actually if you used a potentiometer on the pedal you could vary the amount of torque converter clutch slip. TCC solenoids are pulse-width-modulated in order to vary slip anyways so really not that much difference. Though this would probably require the use of a module or analog/digital converter to change the analog signal from the pedal into the correct digital PWM signal for the solenoid.
